Influencing Bridgeport- BAM

Bijou Square asks: Where were you before you lived here?

Bob: BAM was located in Trumbull Center. Our office windows overlooked a dumpster.

Bijou Square: What brought you here?

Bob: Opportunity. Cool office space in a wonderful historic building. Much better creative energy. Being a part of a true urban renaissance. Oh, and Phil Kuchma.

Bijou Square: What do you do in Bridgeport?

Bob: I run an advertising agency. I work with a very creative team of crazy and dedicated ad-heads. I serve on the board of the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce. I'm an active participant in the Downtown Special Services District. I wander the streets of downtown Bridgeport, soaking in the beauty and history. I occupy a seat at Epernay, Two Boots, Cafe Roma, Blue Martini, Ralph 'n' Rich's, Ash Creek Saloon, Captain's Cove, Port Coffee House, Harborview Market, Merritt Canteen, Timothy's etc...

Bijou Square: What’s one spot you could be in Bridgeport all day and why?

Bob: On the beach at Seaside Park. I actually worked in Downtown Bridgeport for 2 years before I discovered Seaside. It's one of the biggest and most beautiful beaches in the state. Friends and associates often ask why I would go to the beach in Bridgeport. I put them in the front seat of my car and drive them there, then they understand.

Bijou Square: What do you think we’re missing here?

Bob: Lots, but here are 2 of the missing ingredients: 1. People on the streets. I'd love to see more people living downtown, more shops, restaurants, cafes, festivals, events. More small businesses. Businesses will create jobs, and more jobs will fuel the growth of those shops, restaurants, etc. It's a cycle. The entrepreneurs that are here now are pioneers, and everyone here at BAM is an enthusiastic pioneer! Let's support each other and great things will happen! 2. We need to do more to spread the good news about what's happening here in Bridgeport. When people come to Bridgeport and experience our beautiful parks, great museums, unique restaurants, etc. they inevitably say "wow, what a great surprise!" We need to surprise more people.

This is a love story. Except it has no boy meets girl, no diamond rings, no sobbing at the end. Instead, it is about a devotion between a community and it's budding neighborhood. Our non-traditional bunch includes artists, musicians, eco-urban planners, lego-enthusiasts, gourmet chefs, librarians, and historians. To name a few. Realizing the potential in our surroundings, we are collaborating minds and skills to generate change. Replacing the negative undertone with positive energy. Bringing awareness to the fact that our city is a cultural hub. And, we intend to leave quite an impression on our small dot of the map. What we do is where we live. Where we live is Bridgeport. Won't you be our neighbor?
