Influencing Bridgeport- Paradox Ink

Bijou Square asks: Where were you before you lived here?

Liz: Greenwich, CT and working out of a studio in Stamford, CT. Before that, I drove across the country a few times and spent time in New Mexico. And before that, I was in Providence, RI for five years.

Bijou Square: What brought you here?

Liz: Live/work studio space brought me here. My old studio space was being turned into luxury condos and it was time for a new living situation, as well, so I researched reasonably priced, live/work spaces in Fairfield County (where I had made connections) and the Sterling Market Lofts (Read's Artspace) in Bridgeport caught my attention.

Bijou Square: What do you do here?

Liz: I screenprint clothing (t-shirts, mostly) for clients, boutiques, bands and businesses through my company Paradox Ink. I also screenprint photographic imagery on patterned fabrics I've collected that I stretch to create fine art pieces. I also paint– murals and public art. Some of the public art pieces have been painted on traffic signal control boxes around Bridgeport. The project began in Stamford CT, where I had painted many, and now has traveled to Bridgeport. You can look at some of my work online at: www.paradoxink.com

Bijou Square: What’s one spot you could be in Bridgeport all day and why?

Liz: Besides my studio? I'd say Seaside Park– great place to ride your bike, enjoy the beach and ocean, barbecue... it's close to downtown but removed enough for you to escape the city.

Bijou Square: What do you think we’re missing here?

Liz: A convenient grocery store! Maybe an organic grocer?

This is a love story. Except it has no boy meets girl, no diamond rings, no sobbing at the end. Instead, it is about a devotion between a community and it's budding neighborhood. Our non-traditional bunch includes artists, musicians, eco-urban planners, lego-enthusiasts, gourmet chefs, librarians, and historians. To name a few. Realizing the potential in our surroundings, we are collaborating minds and skills to generate change. Replacing the negative undertone with positive energy. Bringing awareness to the fact that our city is a cultural hub. And, we intend to leave quite an impression on our small dot of the map. What we do is where we live. Where we live is Bridgeport. Won't you be our neighbor?
